Remember one master principle first: the value of Gann tools is "reminding you to watch specific time/price crossings", not "telling you where the market must go". Any level given by an angle line or box is executable only together with a stop-loss and an invalidation condition.

1.1 What an Angle Line Is

Gann held that a fixed ratio links price and time, and he drew that relationship as rays from a significant high/low:

  • 1×1 line: 1 unit of price per 1 unit of time — 45° (under equal-scale axes). This is the "spine" of the Gann system, representing the most balanced trend speed.
  • 2×1 / 4×1 / 8×1: steeper, representing strong trends (price moving faster than time).
  • 1×2 / 1×4 / 1×8: flatter, representing weak trends or ranges (time moving faster than price).

⚠️ Angles Depend on Axis Scaling

Angle values depend on axis scaling. Under different price ranges and time spans, the physical angle of the same 1×1 line changes. So don't memorize "45°" — understand the ratio itself: "1×1 = one unit of price per one unit of time".

1.2 Correct Drawing: Anchors from Significant Structure

In this project's drawing tools, the Gann fan interaction is A (origin) → B (direction point):

  • A goes to a significant high or low (the start of an impulse, a historical major top/bottom);
  • B decides "the 1×1 ratio" — the software takes the A→B vertical swing as one price unit, then fans out 9 lines at 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8 multiples on both sides.

  • The close clearly breaks the currently relied-upon angle line (e.g., the 1×1) and fails to recover the next day → that line's support/resistance role is void;
  • The angle line is pierced on heavy volume → the trend speed itself changed; the old ratio no longer applies — redraw;
  • In ranging markets, angle lines get crossed repeatedly — never trade off angle lines inside a range.

2. The Gann Box: Packing "Angles" into a "Time-Price Frame"

2.1 What the Gann Box Is

The Gann box (Gann Box / Gann Square) is the "zonal" version of the fan: frame a rectangle with two points A→B, and inside the rectangle these are drawn automatically:

  • 1×1 main diagonals (two, bold): corner to opposite corner — the "skeleton" of the box;
  • 1×2 lines: four corners → midpoints of the opposite edges (half speed);
  • 2×1 lines: four corners → midpoints of the adjacent edges (double speed).

2.2 Why a "Box" Instead of a Single Angle Line

2.3 Practical Usage (with This Project's Tools)

Usage A: breakout-retest confirmation

  1. Frame the pre-launch consolidation range with the Gann box (A = range low, B = range high);
  2. After price breaks the box top on expansion, a retest of the 1×1 diagonal (or the 2×1 line) that holds → the retest is valid;
  3. Losing the 1×1 with no hope of recovery → the breakout failed; exit.

Usage B: rhythm switching inside the box

  • Price riding up along the 1×1 = balanced advance; once the 1×1 is lost and price shifts onto 2×1 support = the trend is decelerating into a "slow bull/consolidation";
  • Price climbing steeply along the 2×1 = acceleration leg — the end of an acceleration leg often coincides with the emotional climax; reduce together with volume-price divergence.

Usage C: target projection (weak reference)

  • The rectangle's height (price span H) and width (time span T) form a ratio; H roughly equal to T makes a "square" box, and Gann stressed that time-price balance points often produce turns — use only as an "alert when the point arrives" reminder, never as a precise sell signal.

2.4 Hit and Editing (Implementation Details of This Project)

  • Area hit: like a rectangle, clicking anywhere inside the box selects it, making whole-box dragging easy;
  • Anchor editing: once selected, the A/B corners show anchors, each draggable to adjust the box;
  • Deletion: once selected, click "Delete" or press Delete.
